What's with the Name?

Response-Able Consulting. Rolls off the tongue doesn't it? (wink)

I named the company Response-Able Consulting because it reflects my belief that no matter what happens to us in life -- we are Able to choose our Response. By owning that reality and by doing that effectively, we are responsible or, as I like to call it, response-able.

Mind you, we can't control WHAT happens to us. We can - if we choose to -- control HOW WE RESPOND to what happens to us. Big difference.

I'm reminded of a line in a song by the band Rush, "If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice."

If you're going to choose anyway, why not make a more deliberate, intentional, meaningful (can you say, "fulfilling") choice?

What Do I Mean by Intention?

Let me explain by sharing a definition I once heard:

Hell is getting to Heaven and finding out what your life could have been.

This is what happens when we are not living a life of intention. Are you making decisions that create the life you want? If you're not, what kind of life are you creating? Is it all work and no play? Are you successful but not happy? Make a decision to live deliberately, intentionally. Be response-able.

Why Do I Do What I Do?

I've experienced many losses: breaking my neck at 15, the unexpected deaths of college friends, an emotionally devastating divorce, the murder of my cousin, watching my father succumb to ALS. As a result of these and other events, I strive to live a life of intention. I believe that every day my eyes open and my heart is beating, I have another opportunity -- another chance -- to be an example to others, to offer hope. I refuse to die with regrets. I am living a life of meaning and intention.

You can, too.

And I'll help.
